Is a ‘Sustainable Summer’ written in the sand?

As the Summer holidays in the UK, draw nearer, I’ve been making a wish list of sustainable products that I either really, really want plus items that I’ve tried and tested, that I can highly recommend.

It’s plastic free July, so I’ve made sure to only include plastic free, or indeed if they do contain plastic, that its recycled or reused in some way. Some items may seem pricey, but they’re made to last… I’d love to know what you think so please do write YOUR feedback and suggestions below as I don’t believe that being sustainable is written in the sand…

So here we go:

  1. Sunglasses by Kyloe in the Wild - ‘Ziggy’ £60.99 Sustainable why? All their sunglasses are made from recycled materials and I particulary love this Scottish small business for their excellent customer service.

  2. Reclaim Magazine 10 issues a year, at £50 if you’re a club member Sustainable why? You can access the magazine on your phone/tablet, to save on paper PLUS its a fabulous resource for finding and making your own upcycled gems for your home. And inspirational read.

  3. Beach Towel by Dock & Bay (Tropic Like Its Hot £28) Quick Dry beach towels that fold so small they’re perfect for making space in your suitcase Sustainable why? Made from 100% recycled plastic bottles

  4. Scallop Shell Candle by Chloe Haywood London OK yep - a shell candle isn’t something you’ll want during the day perhaps, but certainly if you’re having an evening swim in the sea or having a little sundowner on the coast, this is a pure winner at £8. Sustainable why? Made from 100% recycled candle wax and made waste scallop shells - by product from Ring of Bells Pub in Taunton.

  5. Lipbalm by Wild - Choose from three refillable cases, then select your WILD lipsalve (pack of three) Add CHLOEHAYWOOD at checkout for this and any other products for a 20% discount (if you’re a first time customer) Sustainable why? 8. Comb by MULL (£14) After a swim you’ll need this unisex wide tooth comb for keeping your tresses tamed. This one is called Lori-el. Sustainable why? 10. Suncream by Upcircle £27.99 I’m a HUGE fan of UpCircle and have been an #UpcircleInsider for a few years now. I was selected for a photoshoot for the launch of this suncream nearly three years ago and still use it now. Sustainable why? It - like all of UpCircle products contains waste products. This one contains upcycled raspberry seeds from the juicing industry to protect and hydrate your delicate skin. Whats more, when it’s finished, you can send the pot back to be refilled which saves you 20% of the original price.

  11. Sunhat by Chloe Haywood London £38 - Everyone needs one - a beautiful handwoven panama straw which provides excellent sun protection, shielding your face and neck from harmful UV rays.  The natural straw is far more breathable and comfortable for all-day wearing than cotton or synthetic alternatives. Stay cool, comfortable, and stylish while enjoying your favorite outdoor activities all summer long. Sustainable why? Handwoven in panama but sourced from the company that directly pays the weavers so its Fairtrade.
